-Long time Canadian band, Hidden Cameras, have announced a release date for their new album Age. The album is expected on January 21 through Outside Music and includes the single “Gay Goth Scene” which was revealed this summer.
-Grimes received from negative comments when she posted on her blog a picture of her eating Ben & Jerry’s ice cream with the comment: “1 day hiatus from veganism is being had starting NOw." She then blogged about how most vegans are “dogmatic assholes” and she advocates a vegan outlook that is more accepting. So she occasionally eats animal by-products for social reasons and believes more people would choose a more ethical diet if they weren’t bullied into it. So does that mean I can eat bacon when I crave it? Seems like a wavering outlook to me.

-Tribe Called Red, who blends electronic and First Nations music, have booked more tour dates to carry into 2014. The trio has had a very successful 2013 with their releases, touring and spreading their political message. They will be in town on February 12, playing at the Shelter.
-Owen Pallett announced over a year ago he would be releasing an album entitled In Conflict. Recently, Pallett mentioned in an interview that he hoped to have the album completed earlier this year, but the mixing process has taken longer than expected. Openly gay Pallett stated that this will be first album he is releasing with lyrics based on his sexuality instead of “fantasy-land hippie-dippy stuff.”
-The first album I ever owned, Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette is being turned into a broadway musical. Will it be cool? That is a good question. But Morissette is teaming up with composer Tom Kitt to adapt this 1995 album to the stage. Kitt is a Pulitzer winning composer who also worked with Green Day to turn American Idiot into a play. -The Polaris Prize Gala was last week, and when introducing Metric, Sebastien Grainger announced that he would have two albums in the running for next years Polaris. One will be the previously hinted at reunion album from Death From Above 1979, and the second will be a solo album entitled Yours to Discover. This album has been in the works for over 5 years, and it will finally be out on November 12 via Last Gang.
-Speaking of the Polaris Gala, Godspeed You! Black Emperor took home the award with their fourth LP, 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! The Montreal band beat out many bands for this prestigious award, Metric, Young Galaxy, Tegan & Sara and many others, but were not in attendance to accept the award. The award was accepted by the president of Constellation Records. The next day the band released a letter questioning the purpose of the Polaris Prize and why an expensive gala would be held in times of economic struggle. They donated the 30 grand winning to prisoners in Quebec.

-Arcade Fire's new song is out! It also has been confirmed that David Bowie has supplied a brief backing vocal on the James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced track (no saxophone though), according to Bowie’s FB page. The band has released two videos for the track, the first being an interactive video directed by frequent Arcade Fire collaborator Vincent Morisset and the second is directed by Anton Corbijn.
-Neil Young made some enemies in Fort McMurray when he compared the city to Hiroshima after being devastated by the atomic bomb, because of the oilsands and the fumes that come from oil production. In response, radio stations in Fort McMurray refused to play his songs for a day. There was a poll to see if the audience wanted him banned from the airwaves forever, but it was voted down. The Fort McMurray mention is around the 6:35 mark.
-A Far North Sound favourite, Montreal electro-funk duo Chromeo have announced their follow-up to 2010's Business Casual. It's titled White Women. they've shared a teaser for the record, featuring new song "Over Your Shoulder" and the track as well:

CanRock News Minute:
Moonface, the solo effort of Ex-Wolf Parade member Spencer Krug, will be releasing a new album entitled “Julia with Blue Jeans On” on October 29 (Jagjaguwar/Paper Bag.) This album will be much different than past releases as it will be just him singing along with his piano.
Canada has implemented new foreign labour laws that really affect international acts coming to our country. The new laws increased the fee for venues and booking agents per performance of touring acts in Canada. The fee has been raised to $425. There is an online petition against the poll. If you are interested in signing it, head to the change.org.
Festival lovers can still get their last summer “hurrah!” On September 21, check out the free all-day Junction Festival in Toronto. It features Canadian artists like Cuff the Duke & Zeus, with over 25 bands in total. And residents of Windsor/Detroit, have the option of Laneway Festival or Phog Phest on September 14. Laneway features two dozen acts including Sigur Ros and The National, and a staple of Windsor, Phog Phest highlights Young Galaxy, Besnard Lakes and many local favourites.

-Lindi Ortega is picking up speed and acclaim. On October 8, she will release her third album entitled Tin Star on Last Gang Records. Lindi has released an album a year since her debut called Little Red Boots in 2011. This album is said to be her move from Toronto to Nashville.
-Hannah Georgas has booked more tour dates, and since I just missed her at Osheaga in Montreal, I am siked to hear it. The closest date to Windsor/Detroit is Oct 30 in London at the Aeolian Hall, and she will continue through Ontario until the end of November.
-The lead singer of The Dears, Murray Lightburn, is releasing a solo album under his own name. He said it was a quite the challenge going alone. The album is out tomorrow, and is entitled MASS:LIGHT. The Dears plan to start writing together again in 2014.

pointed out).
